GIFTS FOR THE FUTURE CAMPAIGN. The effort to gather remaining gifts is moving well. As of December 19 we had received: Annual Stewardship $1,212,196 and Capital Fund $555,885. This is towards our 3-year goal of $1,620,000 for Stewardship and $750,000 for Capital Fund. Our Celebration Sunday is January 8, 2006. Can you help? Will you help?

CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING. Presbyterians have long celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ by giving generously to an Advent offering. The Christmas Joy Offering dates back to the1930’s when the PCUS began an offering to supplement inadequate retirement income and provide supplemental medical insurance for former ministers, missionaries, church workers, and their families. In the late 1940’s that became the Joy Gift. In 1989 the offering was renamed the Christmas Joy Offering, and in 1991 the 203rd General Assembly changed the distribution of funds to 50 percent to the Board of Pensions and 50 percent to the Presbyterian racial ethnic schools and colleges.

NO YOUTH FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES THIS EVENING!

THE MEN’S BREAKFAST GROUP meets at 7:30 a.m. this Wednesday, December, 28 at Scottie McBean’s in Clintonville. All men invited.

JANUARY 1, 2006 IS FOOD SUNDAY. This month’s contributions go to Community Resource Center (CRC). They have requested boxed meals, canned meats and vegetables, soup, rice, pasta, diapers and personal care products. Place food items in the grocery carts in the Narthex along with register tapes. To donate money, use the large envelope attached to the cart for cash, or checks payable to Overbrook Church. All donations are appreciated.

JANUARY 1, 2006 TRINITY LUNCHES.  Mission Counil prepares Trinity Lunches to be served to homeless men Monday, Jan. 2. To help, meet in the kitchen following worship. Added volunteers will help make sandwiches and bag cookies, chips and juice.

OVERBROOK SERVES YWCA FAMILY CENTER JANUARY 8  The crew starts preparing stew at 2 p.m.; transports the meal at 5, and serves residents until 7:30, returning to Overbrook by 8 p.m.  Sign up in the hallway towards the Preschool if you’ll help provide, prepare, or serve food.

JUST LOOK AT THEM NOW!  If you are a preschool graduate, or parent of one, let the Preschool know where life has taken former preschool students. We’re gathering information to learn where “our kids” are now as part of the 40th birthday celebration of preschool, on Sunday, February 26, 2006.

BIBLE STUDY—BOOK of JOB.   Eugene Peterson states in The Message:  “Job suffered. His name is synonymous with suffering. He asked, Why? Why me? And he put his questions to God.” Like Job, we suffer in health and in circumstances of family and friendships.  Like Job, we have ideas about God’s control.  Like Job, we hear friends’ opinions of why we suffer.  Rev. Leety leads exploration of Job, Sunday mornings 9-10, Jan. 29 – Feb. 26, 2006.

COLUMBUS LITERACY COUNCIL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! It’s getting time to make New Year’s resolutions. Consider teaching someone to read. Columbus Literacy Council provides free language instruction to adults in reading, and English as a Second Language. The council depends on volunteers to help with tutoring and support services. For information about enrollment as a volunteer, call 221-5013 or log on to http://www.columbusliteracy.org.

YEAR END GIFTS TO THE CHURCH to be entered in 2005 tax year must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2005; or brought to the office no later than December 30, 2005.  Overbrook appreciates donors’ generosity and thanksgivings to God at any time.
