Words to be cantored
by Jon Siehl – based on Psalm 23
The
Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the
pastures where you give me repose. Near restful waters you lead me to revive my
drooping spirit. You guide me along the right path; you are true to your name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear. You are there
with your rod and staff; with these you give me comfort. You have prepared a
banquet for me in the sight of my foes. My head you have anointed with oil; my
cup is over flowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days
of my life. In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever.

*LESSON FROM HISTORY & CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE Acts 2:42-47
(NRSV)
Leader: They
devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship,
to
the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Unison:
Lord, we teach and gather, pray and break bread,
but
sometimes without devotion.
Leader: Awe came upon everyone,
because many
wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.
All who
believed were together and had all things in common.
Unison:
God, we have some things in common,
but keep
much to ourselves.
Leader: They
would sell their possessions and goods
and
distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.
Unison: Lord, we’re generous, but we distinguish
between some needs
and other needs, and among recipients of our
distribution.
Leader: Day by
day, as they spent much time together in the temple,
they
broke bread at home and ate their food
with glad and
generous hearts.
Unison: Lord, come together with us, forgive us and
break bread,
and restore hearts to generosity and hands
as well.
(a time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
