*CALL TO WORSHIP
Matthew 10:40-42 (NRSV)
Leader: Jesus says, “Whoever welcomes you welcomes
me,
and whoever
welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
People:
Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet
will receive a prophet's reward;
Leader: and whoever welcomes a righteous person in
the name
of a
righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous;
People:
and whoever gives even a cup of cold water
to one of these little ones in the name of
a disciple—
truly I tell you, none of
these will lose their reward.”
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 408 (vs. 1-4) Where
Cross the Crowded Ways of Life
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE (unison) on
Genesis 21:1-21/wrl
Lord, family values have appeal—
no unwanted child, holiness of marriage, bonds of sister and brother.
Family values appeal, partly because we
know so much else—
children and mothers driven out or
abandoned,
messy marriages,
sibling
squabbles—all within our families.
Forgive
our silence and secrets.
Teach
us that forgiveness is your family’s way,
that mercy is house rules,
and that Christ your child has
answered for every evil.
(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE on Psalm 13: 5-6/wrl
Leader: We have trusted in God’s steadfast love;
Our hearts
rejoice in God’s salvation.
People:
God’s saving comes to us in the forgiveness given
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Leader: We sing to the Lord, because God has dealt
bountifully with us.
*THE PEACE
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with
you all.
People: Peace be with you.
(worshipers share words and gestures of
God’s peace)
