CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                       On Psalm 46 (NRSV)/wrl

Leader: God speaks: “Be still, and know that I am God!

I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”

          (a time of stillness and silence as the Christ Candle is lighted)

Leader and People:   The Lord of hosts is with us;

 the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Leader: God is our refuge and strength,

a very present help in trouble.

People: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change;

though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam,

            though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Leader: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy habitation of the Most High.

People: God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;

Leader: God will help it when the morning dawns.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 482                                        Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE           on Genesis 6: 11-12 & Romans 3:23 (NRSV)/wrl

Leader:  From Genesis: “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight,

and the earth was filled with violence…

all flesh had corrupted its ways upon the earth.”

  From the Apostle’s letter to Christians in Rome:

“…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Unison: We confess, God, that we are linked by a common humanity

             to all the ways that violate and corrupt.

Flood your world with grace, O God, and us too.

Buoy us for faithful obedience in this universe

you are ever mending and making new in Christ.

(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.

*RESPONSE # 572                                                                     Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE                                                   On Psalm 46: 4/wrl

Leader: There is a river whose streams make glad the city.

There is God’s promise in baptism to forgive us.

People: We receive again, still, God’s forgiveness flowing in Christ

and pledge our days as thankful, obedient and forgiving servants.

*RESPONSE # 576                                                                                            Gloria, Gloria
