FOR YOUR INFORMATION

CHILDREN’S BULLETINS are available for ages 3-6 and 7-12.  They contain fun, age- appropriate activities related to today’s worship.  The bulletins, along with pencils or crayons, can be found on the table in the Narthex, or by asking an usher for assistance.

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is wearing a yellow carnation, she will be available in the Narthex after worship to hear your concerns.

NO YOUTH FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES THIS EVENING!

TODAY IS FOOD SUNDAY.  January contributions are for Community Resources Center (CRC). They request boxed meals, canned meats and vegetables, soup, rice, pasta, diapers and personal care products. Place food contributions in the grocery carts in the Narthex along with register tapes. To donate money, use the large envelope attached to the cart for cash, or checks payable to Overbrook Church. All donations are appreciated.

MISSION COUNCIL PREPARES LUNCHES TODAY.  Meet in the kitchen following worship. Additional volunteers can help make sandwiches and bag cookies, chips and juice for tomorrow’s lunch served homeless men at Trinity Church downtown.

THE 2006 FLOWER CHART is in the office, ready for members and friends of Overbrook to sign up to provide flowers on Sundays.

GIFTS FOR THE FUTURE CAMPAIGN. Closer, Closer, but still not quite there. To date $1,289,605 has been raised for annual stewardship and $576,260 in capital funding. This is a great achievement, but neither goal has been fully reached. On January 8 the campaign will end. Then the budgeting for 2006 begins. Some of the ministry and mission of our congregation may have to be cancelled. If you haven’t made your pledges yet, now is the last minute.

ADULT FORUM IN JANUARY.  Next Sunday (9-10 a.m.) begins a four-week series on Poverty and Hunger.  Come on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in the Parlor to hear more about a rising problem and central issue of our faith.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER NEXT SUNDAY. Deacons should check the schedule for preparation and clean-up for Communion.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS NEXT SUNDAY MORNING in Bill Leety’s office, 10–10:30 and 11:30–12 noon.  It’s important to have blood pressure checked regularly, especially if you are in a high risk category.

OVERBROOK SERVES YWCA FAMILY CENTER JANUARY 8. The crew starts preparing stew at 2 p.m.; transports the meal at 5, and serves residents until 7:30, returning to Overbrook by 8 p.m.  Sign up in the hallway towards the Preschool if you’ll help provide food, prepare, or serve.

JUST LOOK AT THEM NOW!  If you’re a preschool graduate, or parent of one, let Overbrook Preschool know where life has taken former preschool students. We’re gathering information to learn where “our kids” are now, as part of our 40th birthday celebration on Sunday, February 26, 2006.

BIBLE STUDY—BOOK of JOB.   Eugene Peterson states in The Message:  “Job suffered. His name is synonymous with suffering. He asked, Why? Why me? And he put his questions to God.” Like Job, we suffer in health and in circumstances of family and friendships.  Like Job, we have ideas about God’s control.  Like Job, we hear friends’ opinions of why we suffer.  Rev. Leety leads exploration of Job, Sunday mornings 9-10, Jan. 29 – Feb. 26, 2006.

HAVE YOU TURNED IN YOUR COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT? Deadline was December 30.  In order to prepare for the Annual Congregation meeting, Committees submit reports for a year-end booklet.  Leave reports in the office, on disk or copy-ready hard copy.   Better yet, email them to lellett@overbrookchurch.org.

OFFERING ENVELOPES AND 2006 MISSION YEAR BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE.

If you requested printed envelopes or have used them in the past for your offerings, they can be found on the table outside the office. We do not have enough envelopes for everyone who requested them for the Capital Campaign—so when contributing by cash or check, note “Capital Campaign” prominently on the envelope or check.

COLUMBUS LITERACY COUNCIL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!  Consider teaching someone to read as Christian commitment to the world God loves. Columbus Literacy Council provides free language instruction to adults in reading, and English as a Second Language. The Council depends on volunteers to tutor or provide support services.
