CHILDREN’S BULLETINS are available for ages 3-6 and 7-12.  They contain fun, age- appropriate activities related to today’s worship.  The bulletins, along with pencils or crayons, can be found on the table in the Narthex, or by asking an usher for assistance.

 

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is aHHa wearing a yellow carnation, he will be available in the Narthex after worship to hear your concerns.

 

THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION will be celebrated today, this first Sunday of Lent. As on all Communion Sundays, the loose offering goes towards the work of the Board of Deacons.

 

TODAY IS F.O.O.D. SUNDAY. This month’s contributions go to Neighborhood Services and they have requested the following items: Canned fruits, vegetables, pasta and juice; household and personal items. Place food items in the grocery carts in the Narthex along with your register tapes. To donate money, please use the large envelope attached to the cart for cash, or checks made payable to Overbrook Church. All donations are appreciated.

 

TRINITY LUNCH PREP TODAY! Committee members from Personnel and Membership are responsible for making sandwiches, bagging chips, cookies and drinks. Meet in the kitchen immediately following the service. Other people who would like to volunteer to help are always welcome.

 

THE TWENTY-SOMETHINGS Overbrook’s brand new Twenty-Somethings group will be getting together for brunch today. Join us in the Narthex after service and come with us to Scottie McBean’s.

 

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP HAVING GUEST SPEAKERS TONIGHT.  One couple spent time in Ethiopia, the other couple in Honduras. They will bring foods native to each country. They will show pictures and talk about the kind of work they did. Meet in the Senior High room after choir for what should be an interesting evening. Tell your friends and invite them to come along.

 

MEN’S BREAKFAST GROUP meets this Wednesday, March 8 at 7:30 a.m. at Scottie McBean’s in Clintonville. All men are welcome.

 

THE MARTHA CIRCLE (Formerly Circle 4) meets Wednesday, March 8 at 9:00 a.m. They have invited the women of Shiloh Baptist Church to join them for a get to know each other session and Rev. Linda McClanahan will lead the introductions. Shiloh Baptist Church was our partner when we hosted the Interfaith Hospitality Network families here at Overbrook.

 

LENT SERIES CONTINUES.  “The Messiah in the Old Testament” led by O.S.U. Professor, Dr. Sam Meier promises to enhance our understanding of how the Old Testament describes the Messiah. There is a brief worship service in the Chapel, followed by a soup and finger foods dinner. The program will be in the Parlor from 7:15-8:15 p.m. There is also a program lined up for the children.  Come as your schedule allows.

 

PHOEBE CIRCLE (Formerly Circle 5) meets Thursday, March 9th at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlor. The study is Faith Lesson 20 of “That the World May Know.” Please read Mark

4: 35-41 and 5: 1-20 and be ready for the film and discussion. All Women of Overbrook

are welcome.

 

OVERBROOK SERVES AT YWCA FAMILY CENTER next Sunday, March 12, 2006. Overbrook is responsible for the second Sunday of each month to prepare the dinner meal, serve it and provide fellowship for the homeless families of Columbus. Volunteers usually prepare stew at 2:00 p.m.; transport the meal at 5:00 p.m.; serve from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and return to Overbrook by 8:00 p.m.

 

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS in Bill Leety’s office next Sunday from 10:30 – 11:30 and 11:30 – 12:00 noon.

 

NEW GENERATION FELLOWSHIP GROUP will gather on March 11 for Movie Night on the big screen. Childcare provided at Overbrook. Time is to be announced.

 

HAVE YOU BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR BIG BREAK? Well here is your chance to sing and make a joyful noise! Come join the Chancel Choir for Schubert Mass in G which we sing on April 2, 2006 with strings. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 8:15 -9:00 on March 9,16,23 and final rehearsal on March 30 at 7:30 p.m. Come, sing and make a joy-filled noise!

 

DINNER GROUPS NOW FORMING FOR 2006. Groups will include six to nine members who will meet 3-4 times through the course of the year to share food, conversation, and friendship. Dinner groups provide a nice opportunity to get to know other Overbrook members.
