FOR YOUR INFORMATION

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is wearing a yellow carnation, she will be available in the Narthex after worship to hear your concerns.

LISTENING ELDER FOR OCTOBER will be available for listening in the Narthex after the worship service today. Feel welcome to convey to her any matter in our congregation’s life that you would like to have passed on to the Session.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH, and the members of Session have chosen today to thank Rev. Leety for his many years of pastoral care, friendship, creativity, leadership and service.  Unbeknownst to him, the music selections this morning were chosen especially for him after we learned of some of his favorite hymns. We also thank our Parish Associate Jon Siehl for his dedication to Overbrook.  The constant, reassuring presence of Bill and Jon over the years has been a blessing.  There will be greeting cards for each in the Narthex following worship.  Please take a moment to sign the cards and perhaps write a quick note of thanks.

FOURTH NIGHT TAIZE WORSHIP is tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  The L.I.F.T. Groups meet from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. Deb Bowsher leads the Horizons Bible Study. The Faith and Fiction group will be discussing The Poet of Tolstoy Park by Sonny Brewer.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP gathers tonight at 5:45 to have dinner with Malin Dahanga and after the Taize Service will go back upstairs to have a discussion with Malin about his country, religion and customs. Next Sunday after church we will have lunch and then finish painting the background for the mural in Room 203.

GOOD NEWS! Dr. Dumisani Kamwana has passed the latest Fellowship of the College of Pediatricians (South Africa) exam results! He has one more exam in March 2008 and then will be back working in Malawi. Dumisani and May Kamwana also have had their first child, a little boy, whom they call Baby Dumi. Dr. Kamwana is the Malawi physician that Overbrook is helping to sponsor for his pediatrics residency. There are congratulatory cards on the desk in the office today. Please come by and sign them, so the Kamwanas will know we are thinking of them. Donna Chirwa will make sure they get sent.

THE PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE is Tuesday, October 24 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Invite friends and families who might be interested in enrolling children for January or next Fall.

THE NEW GENERATIONS annual Halloween Bash is Saturday, October 28 at the John Beltz Retreat Center from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. There will be good food, games and prizes for the children, s’mores and hayride for everyone. If you need directions, please contact the office.

JOHN BELTZ COMMITTEE has scheduled their annual Fall Walk for October 29, 2006 at the John Beltz Retreat Center from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. There will be a campfire for roasting hotdogs, making s’mores and maybe even singing campfire songs. We will also have a hayride so that you can see the improvements recently made to the property. If you need directions, check the table in the Narthex.

TRINITY LUNCHES NEXT SUNDAY are the responsibility of Add-A-Couple I group. Meet in Fellowship Hall following the worship service to make sandwiches, bag cookies and pack lunch sacks.

ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY is marked on October 29, 2006 remembering by name those who have died since last November both members of the church and family and friends of members. If you would like a person remembered by name call the church office and give us the name and proper pronunciation.

MARTHA CIRCLE meets Wednesday, November 8 at 9:30 a.m. Read Lessons 3 & 4 on Genesis in The Horizon’s Bible Study Guide.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The Properties Committee has scheduled the Fall Clean-up Day for November 11, 2006 from 9:00 – 12:00. There are leaves to rake, flower beds to be cleaned out and hedges to be pruned. Come for 1 hour or 3 hours which ever your schedule allows. Bring your gloves, rakes and pruners.

JUST A COUPLE OF REMINDERS – The new traffic patterns in the parking lot have been in place for over a year now and yet people are still exiting through the entrances and vice versa. Please be mindful of the arrows painted on the pavement and the directions they indicate. The middle driveway is the only exit. The other two ends are entrances.

We still need cookies for Trinity Lunches the next two Sundays.
