ARE YOU A GOOD HOST? The Reverend Malin Dahanga joins Overbrook for 6 weeks from October 6 to November 16 as part of Synod’s Mission to the USA program. We need people to host Malin for a meal or take him with you to the opera, art museum, Halloween storytelling or even a birthday party! Welcome him, read his perceptions of our church and culture, and welcome him as a brother in Christ. Please contact Bill Leety by e-mail wrleety@overbrookchurch.org

THE OVERBROOK COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE collected 29 units of blood and only 11 people not able to donate for various reasons. We thank all the volunteers and folks who donated. Give the gift of life by donating blood.

LISTENING ELDER FOR SEPTEMBER will be available for listening in the Narthex after the worship service today. Feel welcome to convey to her any matter in our congregation’s life that you would like to have passed on to the Session.

ARE YOU A TWENTY- OR THIRTY-SOMETHING? Deb Bowsher will gather with you and your peers for a VERY brief (maximum 15 minutes) meeting after worship today to discuss plans to get together for fellowship and mission service activities. Meet Deb in the Conference Room.

4th NIGHT ACTIVITIES tonight will be at the John Beltz Retreat Center beginning with a Taize Worship at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Bible Study on Genesis, led by Deb Bowsher. Please bring a dish to share for a potluck dinner after worship.

THEFT!! Last Sunday, money was taken from purses locked in the Choir Rehearsal Room. As an urban church, let us continue to do our best to assure security of things in our building, knowing ourselves a community of sinners who welcome sinners in Christ’s name. And, let us guard others’ safety in the building and on the grounds.

NEXT SUNDAY IS WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY. The Sacrament of Communion will be served and we will receive the Peacemaking Offering. Special offering envelopes can be found in the pew pockets.

NEXT SUNDAY IS F.O.O.D. SUNDAY. This month’s contributions go the CRC (Community Resources Center) and they have requested the following items: canned meats, tuna, chicken, ham; canned vegetables of all kinds. Personal Hygiene items are always needed. Please place items in the grocery carts in the Narthex.

NEXT SUNDAY WE PREPARE TRINITY LUNCHES. Overbrook Mission Committee has taken on the task of preparing lunches for homeless men the First Monday of every month, and the fifth Monday of months with 5. October is one of those months. Our Youth Fellowship group is responsible for making the lunches on October 1 and Add-A-Couple I is responsible on October 29.

ADD-A-COUPLE II is sponsoring a hayride and potluck dinner at John Beltz Retreat on Sunday, October 1 from 3:00 – 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. For reservations, phone Myra Dull at 451-0295.

YOUR CAR IS DIRTY! Overbrook Youth will wash your car while you’re at church on Sunday morning October 8. Leave your keys with us when you arrive at church, and we’ll have your car clean when you’re ready to leave. Your donation will support high school students Steven and Martin in Kenya through Marafiki and 6 year old Kimberly in Guatemala through Christian Children’s Fund. Hint: if your car is already clean, we would still accept your donation. Youth and assistants: wear your grubby clothes and arrive at 8:15 a.m. for our worship service. Bring your favorite sponge and soft towel.

PLAN TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP LUNCHEON. You are cordially invited to the annual Stewardship Luncheon Sunday, October 8 at 11:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Brian Michael Smith and the John Vermeulen Trio will be giving a concert of Big Band Favorites at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. See your Overbrook World for more details.

FRANKLIN COUNTY CROP WALK, slated for Sunday, October 8, 2006 will gather at Bicentennial Park. Registration is from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. and walkers begin walking immediately after they register.

IT’S A MYSTERY! We are missing several 60” x 104” table cloths from the Reception Committee closet in the Parlor. Is it possible that you took one home to wash and press it and forgot to return it? If you have any extra ones in white, gray or beige the reception committee would appreciate them.
