*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                                          Psalm 148:1-4

Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord from the heavens;

               Praise the Lord in the heights!

            Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his host!

               Praise the Lord, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!

            Praise the Lord, you highest heavens;

               Praise the Lord, you waters above the heavens!

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 118                                                      The Day of Resurrection!

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                                                             on Jonah 1:1-3/wrl

            Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah…saying, “Go…”

            but Jonah set out to flee…from the presence of the Lord.

            Lord, we cross the street to avoid you:

               your invitation or command, your voice

               calling us, or calling us your beloved.

            We keep busy or sleep, stay on the move or entertained,

               indifferent to and ignorant of your presence.

            We hope our children will be Presbyterian,

   but aren’t so sure about their being disciples.

We book a flight to Colorado

   or board a slow boat to the islands of fun or safety.

Forgive, forgive!

Send a storm, or deliver us from one.  Send others to make your claim on us.

Swallow us whole into darkness, or spit us out wherever in the world you want us,

wherever we can be wholly yours in Jesus.

(time for silent, personal confession)  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE                                                            on Psalm 139/wrl

            Where could we go to escape God’s Spirit?

            Where can we flee from God’s presence?

            If we flew to the sunrise or westward across the sea,

even there God’s hand is guiding us, God’s right hand holding us fast.

   Praise God’s steadfast love and mercy!

*THE PEACE

            The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

               Peace be with you.

(worshipers exchange words and gestures of peace)
