*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                                 From Psalm 147: 1-7

Praise the Lord!

How good it is to sing praises to our God who is gracious,

and for whom a song of praise is fitting.

God heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

God determines the number of stars and names them.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 256                                               Let the Whole Creation Cry

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                               T. S. Eliot, from Choruses from ‘The Rock’

                In this work-driven culture,

               We have…

               knowledge of motion, but not of stillness;

               knowledge of speech, but not of silence;

               knowledge of words, and ignorance of the Word.

               All our knowledge brings us nearer to our ignorance,

               All our ignorance brings us nearer to death,

               but nearness to death no nearer to God.

   Where is the life we have lost in living?

               Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?

               Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

               The cycles of heavens in twenty centuries

                   bring us farther from God and nearer to the dust.

(time of silence for personal confession)  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE                                                              from Isaiah 40:31

Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.

     They shall mount up with wings like eagles, run without weariness,

     and walk without fainting.

*THE PEACE

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Peace be with you.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH                                                         on Isaiah 40: 28-31/wrl

The Lord is the everlasting God, creator of the ends of the earth;

who neither faints nor grows weary, whose understanding is unsearchable.

God gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.

Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted.

But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.

They shall mount up with wings like eagles, run without weariness,

and walk without fainting.
