*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                         from Psalm 133 (NRSV)

How good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

We are one in Christ, one in the Spirit.

It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard,

upon the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.

We are one in Christ, one in the Spirit.

It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion.

For there the Lord has ordained blessing, life forevermore.

We are one in Christ, one in the Spirit.

The Reverend Deborah A. Chase serves in Ekwendini, Malawi as Dean of Academic Affairs and Lecturer at Livingstonia Theological College, a seminary of the Synod of Livingstonia, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian.  In 2003 the Synod established the college to meet the great need for ministers.  There are 122 churches in the synod, 600 thousand members, and 85 ministers—about 1 pastor for every 7000 members!

Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, Debbie, graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, worked for 8 years as a counselor and social worker prior to attending seminary, graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary.  She has served churches in Michigan and Oklahoma, and is a member of the Presbytery of Eastern Oklahoma.  She returns to Edwendini in April and will again serve the seminary, and churches.  Malawi, the 8th poorest country, is a nation of 12 million plagued by HIV/AIDS, malaria and $2.5 billion international debt.  The church plays a vital role in giving people reason to hope amid such seemingly hopeless circumstances.
