*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                              Psalm 9:9-11 (NRSV)

The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

And those who know your name put their trust in you,

For you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion. Declare his deeds among the peoples.

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE AND ASSURANCE OF WHOSE

Seasons of the Spirit Congregational Life, Pentecost 1

Mighty God, we turn our hearts to you and confess

the times when we have not trusted in your presence and guidance.

Forgive us.

When we rely on our strength alone,

Forgive us.

When we are frozen with fear and do not take the action we should,

Forgive us.

When we fail to stand up for what is good and just in your sight,

Forgive us.

When we tread on the rights of others,

Forgive us.

When we forget the needs and hopes of the poor,

Merciful God, do not forsake us.

Restore in us a right spirit and trusting heart.

(Time for silent, personal confession) Amen.

God forgives our arrogance and conceit

and directs our hearts to work for fairness and equality.

God forgives our fear and hesitation

and strengthens us to act with love and courage.

God hears our confession and grants us salvation.

Amen. Let it be so.
