ADULT FORUM began a new series today on “Other Faiths in the World”.  Today we welcomed Dr. Paul Numrich, Associate Professor of World Religions. February 4th brings Dr. Asma Mobin-Uddin, a leader in the Islamic community. Dr. Norman Hosansky, a member of Congregation Tifreth Israel, joins us on February 11th. Then on February 18th we welcome Mr. Manu Bhatt from the Hindu community. This series will challenge us to think with our hearts, as well as offer Christian hospitality to our guests. As Presbyterians we are called to not just tolerate persons of other faiths, but engage them in meaningful and honorable dialogue. Hope you can join us as well.

INQUIRERS’ CLASSES continues on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Library. Today we gathered in the South Parlor to meet members of staff and committee representatives. On February 4 we meet back in the Library with Session, and be received into the congregation during the 10:30 worship service.

LISTENING ELDER  Session normally meets the 4th Tuesday of the month, but because officers elect won’t have been ordained or installed until today, they have moved their January meeting to the 30th. Myra will be available for listening in the Narthex after the worship service today. Feel welcome to convey to her any matter in our congregation’s life that you would like to have passed on to the Session.

NEW GENERATION AND CUB SCOUTS are responsible for preparing Trinity Lunches today. Meet in the kitchen immediately following the worship service to make sandwiches, bag cookies, and pack sacks.

4th NIGHT ACTIVITIES TONIGHT begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Taize Worship Service. At 7:00 p.m. the L.I.F.T. Group will continue discussion from the Horizons Bible Study. Following the Taize Service the Faith and Fiction Group is invited to Jean Williams home for dessert and discussion on “Two From Galilee” by Marjorie Holmes. For directions, please call Jean at 263-6414.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP, if they choose, can go to the Taize Worship and then go upstairs for food, games and conversation.

THE OVERBROOK PRESCHOOL’S ANNUAL SUB SANDWICH SALE is going on now. Order forms are in the Narthex. The deadline for orders from church members is February 4.

LAST WEEK FOR CLEMENTINES: The Whole Foods Market on St. Rt. 161 and Clintonville Resource Center (CRC) have joined forces to raise money for the CRC Food Pantry by selling tote bags for $2 each. All proceeds go to the CRC Food Pantry. The fundraiser ends January 31. Mission Council supports this fundraiser.

“NOURISH YOUR HEART FOR THE JOURNEY.” Come and take a day away from the grey weather, the noise and scurry of daily life to re-energize your soul. Join us in retreat on February 3rd as we take time to explore who we are as spiritual beings, learn how you can re-connect with the Holy Spirit and actually allow yourself the gift of time so you can re-experience walking with Christ. Please call Deb Bowsher, 309-0417 or the church office 261-1040 for details and to RSVP!

NEXT SUNDAY IS F.O.O.D. SUNDAY. This month’s contributions go to NNEMAP and they have requested the following items: Tuna helper, sugar, canned vegetables, pudding & jello, rice, pork & beans, instant milk. Place food items in the grocery carts in the Narthex along with register tapes. To donate money please use the large envelope attached to the cart for cash, or checks made payable to Overbrook Church. All donations are appreciated.

SOUP MAKERS NEEDED! It is not too early to start thinking about Lent and our Lenten Worship Services, Stone Soup Dinners and Guest Speakers. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 21, and our last Wednesday program is March 28. If you are willing to make soup for any of these six Wednesday evenings, please sign up in the church office.
