DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS NEXT SUNDAY

MARCH 11, 2007

DON’T FORGET TO SPRING FORWARD!

WEDNESDAY EVENING LENT SERIES CONTINUES.  This Wednesday, March 7, we worship in the Chapel beginning at 6 p.m.  The focus of the services are the Great Ends of the Church, part of the Preliminary Principles of our Church; this week, “maintenance of divine worship.”

The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.

Wednesday, we take up “shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship.”  After a soup supper—bring a simple dish of “finger food” to share—we meet in the Parlor from 7:15 to 8:15 to hear James Wilson, Stated Clerk of our Presbytery, continue probing the historic roots of Presbyterian Christians, taking a close look at the Scots Confession written by John Knox.

ADULT FORUM FOR MARCH 11 AND 18 will be presented by June Hinkle of our Wellness Committee who will present Advanced Health Care Planning. Topics covered include DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) orders, Healthcare Power of Attorney and Living Wills.

TODAY IS F.O.O.D. SUNDAY. This month’s contributions go to Neighborhood Services. They request the following items: canned soups, vegetables, beef stew, flour and dry beans. Place food items in the grocery carts in the Narthex along with register tapes. To donate money please use the large envelope attached to the cart for cash, or checks made payable to Overbrook Church. All donations are appreciated.

MEMBERSHIP & PERSONNEL PREPARE TRINITY LUNCHES TODAY. Meet in the kitchen following the worship service to make sandwiches, bag cookies and pack sacks.

TICKETS GO ON SALE TODAY! The Youth Fellowship Groups are going to hold their Annual Italian Dinner on Saturday, March 24, 2007. The dinner starts at 5:30 with appetizers in the Narthex and continues in Fellowship Hall. We will have the usual fare of salad, spaghetti, garlic bread, beverage and dessert. The last seating is at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices remain at $5.00 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Profits from the dinner go toward the Youth-Adult Mission Work Camp and Youth Programs.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TONIGHT – “Faith on Fire: Stewardship” – What is stewardship? How can we be good stewards of God’s abundant gifts?

“SEE YOU LATER”, the CD produced by Elmer Fischer is on sale in the Narthex. The songs on the CD deal with the word “see” and what the word means to a blind person. The CDs sell for $12.00, and profits go to the Overbrook Youth/Adult Mission Trip to Pittsburgh. They make great gifts and you may want to buy one for yourself. Check them out at the table were the Italian Dinner tickets are being sold.

WOMEN OF OVERBROOK COORDINATING TEAM meets in the South Parlor on Tuesday, March 6th at 10:00 a.m.

Overbrook is responsible for the second Sunday of each month to prepare the dinner meal, serve it and provide fellowship for homeless families of Columbus. We transport the meal at 5:00 p.m.; serve from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and return to Overbrook by 7:30 p.m. Look for sign-up sheets for items needed on the bulletin board across from the Parlor.

EASTER LILIES AND SPRING FLOWERS FOR THE SANCTUARY ON SALE NEXT SUNDAY.  Unfortunately the price posted in the March Overbrook World of $6.50 will not cover the prices that are being quoted to us. Therefore, we must raise the cost to $7.50 each. The order sheet will be in the church office. Purchase one in honor or memory of someone you love.

DINNER GROUPS NOW FORMING. With the New Year comes a new opportunity to join a dinner group!  Dinner groups consist of six to nine individuals who get together to share meals and fun. Typically the groups will meet three or four times during the year, taking turns as host.  Most dinner groups operate as a potluck, but each group makes it own plan.  This year at least one group will dine out exclusively.  Sign up for dinner groups by contacting the office.
