WEDNESDAY EVENING LENT SERIES CONTINUES.  This Wednesday, March 14, we worship in the Chapel beginning at 6 p.m.  The focus of the services is the Great Ends of the Church, part of the Preliminary Principles of our Church; this week, “the preservation of the truth.”

The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.

After a soup supper—bring a simple dish of “finger food” to share—we meet in the Parlor from 7:15 to 8:15 to hear James Wilson, Stated Clerk of our Presbytery, continue probing the historic roots of Presbyterian Christians, taking a close look at the Scots Confession written by John Knox.

ADULT FORUM TODAY AND MARCH 18. June Hinkle of our Wellness Committee will present Advanced Health Care Planning. Topics covered include DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) orders, Healthcare Power of Attorney, and Living Wills.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS TODAY in Bill Leety’s office from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 – 12:00 noon.

WE SERVE THE YWCA FAMILY CENTER TODAY. Overbrook is responsible for the second Sunday of each month to prepare the dinner meal, serve it and provide fellowship for homeless families of Columbus. We transport the meal at 5:00 p.m.; serve from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and return to Overbrook by 7:30 p.m. Look for sign-up sheets for items needed on the bulletin board across from the Parlor. Youth Fellowship helps to serve the meal. Meet here at 5:45 to be transported to the center.

EASTER LILIES AND SPRING FLOWERS FOR THE SANCTUARY ON SALE.  Unfortunately the price posted in the March Overbrook World does not cover the prices that are being quoted to us. Therefore, the cost is $7.50 each. The order sheet is in the church office. Purchase one in honor or memory of someone you love.

TICKETS ON SALE! The Youth Fellowship Groups hold their Annual Italian Dinner on Saturday, March 24, 2007. The dinner starts at 5:30 with appetizers in the Narthex and continues in Fellowship Hall. We will have the usual fare of salad, spaghetti, garlic bread, beverage and dessert. The last seating is at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices remain at $5.00 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Profits from the dinner go toward the Youth-Adult Mission Work Camp and Youth Programs.

“SEE YOU LATER”, the CD produced by Elmer Fischer is on sale in the Narthex. The songs on the CD deal with the word “see” and what the word means to a blind person. CDs sell for $12.00, and profits support the Youth/Adult Mission Trip to Pittsburgh. CDs make great gifts. Buy one for yourself. Check them out at the table where the Italian Dinner tickets are being sold.

MARTHA CIRCLE meets Wednesday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlor. The study will by “Perspectives on Sacrifice: Abraham & Isaac.”

NEW BEGINNINGS, a group for all singles, meets next Sunday, March 18, in the South Parlor for a potluck luncheon immediately following the worship service.

DINNER GROUPS NOW FORMING. With the New Year comes a new opportunity to join a dinner group!  Each group consists of six to nine diners who get together to share meals and fun. Typically the groups meet three or four times during the year, members taking turns as host. Each group makes its own plan.  This year at least one group will dine out exclusively.  Sign up for dinner groups by contacting the office.

OVERBROOK TO HOLD ELECTIONS. The 2007 Nominating Committee is looking for a few good members to serve on the various boards and committees of this church. Ballots can be found in your bulletins or in the Narthex next to the ballot box. You may nominate yourself, or someone you feel is a good candidate. When the Nominating Committee calls on you, please prayerfully consider serving.
