FOR YOUR INFORMATION

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is wearing a yellow carnation; he will be available in the Narthex after worship to hear your concerns.

TODAY’S LISTENING ELDER will be glad to answer questions and suggestions about the ministry of Overbrook.

THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION is being observed today. As on all communion Sundays, loose offering is used by the Board of Deacons for their continuing care in support of the congregation.

4TH NIGHT TAIZE WORSHIP is tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The Faith & Fiction group meets at 7:00 p.m. in the Library. This month’s selection, The Story of My Father: A Memoir by Sue Miller, is non-fiction, a book offering comfort to daughters and sons struggling to make peace with fathers and themselves. Anyone is welcome to come.

WE PREPARE TRINITY LUNCHES today immediately following worship.  Add-a-Couple I makes sandwiches, bags cookies and packs sacks. The Wellness Committee and Christian Education prepare the lunches next Sunday, November 4th.  Whenever we prepare lunches two weeks in a row the cookie supply gets depleted.  If you’re baking, make an extra dozen for the men of Open Shelter.

MEN’S BREAKFAST GROUP meets Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30 a.m. at Tee Jaye’s at Morse & High. All men are welcome.

NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4,  IS FOOD SUNDAY.  Contributions are designated for NNEMAP (Near Northeast Emergency Material Assistance Program).  They request:  tuna, pork and beans, beef stew, canned vegetables, baby formula, pudding and jello (boxed and cup), canned spaghetti – small size and spaghetti sauce. Place items in grocery carts in the Narthex. If you forget food, you can make a donation in the envelope attached to the cart (cash, or checks payable to OPC).

ONE SUNDAY WITH REV. LEETY is next Sunday, November 4th at 11:45 a.m. in the Parlor for those interested in discussing news issues related to justice and the death penalty.  We look through the lens of faith at Biblical resources, history, and news to consider places where Christian ethics meet current events.  Bring a bag lunch if you like.  In preparation you could watch the old film Dead Man Walking, the story of Sister Mary Prejean; or read Wendell Berry’s short story, “Pray Without Ceasing,” found in Fidelity; or the crucifixion narrative in any of the Gospels.

CARE PACKAGE CONTRIBUTIONS WELCOME! Youth Fellowship will pack “care packages” November 18 for Overbrook college students, just in time for final exams. We would like to send snacks (cookies, popcorn and nuts), fun things (squishy stress balls, funny colored pens, decks of cards), highlighters and post-it note tabs. There is a collection box in the Narthex for donations.

COME SING PRAISE TO THE LORD!  You are invited! Now is your chance to give us a try and join us to make a joyful noise to the Lord!!  The Chancel Choir invites those 18 and older to come and join us for “Lessons, Carols and Poetry” on Sunday afternoon December 16, 2007.  We rehearse Thursday evenings from 8:15-9:00 p.m. November 8, 15, 29 and December 6, 13 and then Saturday December 15 with the instrumentalists.  If you have ever wanted to be a part of the choir, give it a try! If you have any questions, contact Sarah Shaffer.
