CAMPAIGN AGAINST TORTURE – According to the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, torture "violates the basic dignity of the human person that all religions, in their highest ideals, hold dear. It degrades everyone involved -- policy-makers, perpetrators and victims. It contradicts our nation's most cherished ideals." With this in mind, the Presbytery of the Scioto Valley has invited ordained Presbyterian minister the Rev. Carol Wickersham to speak on this issue next Sunday, September 16 th at 3:00p.m. at Broad Street Presbyterian Church. Rev. Wickersham is co-founder of the No2Torture movement. She helped write the "Resolution on Human Rights in a Time of Terror and Torture" approved by the 217 th General Assembly, and the congregational curriculum "Out of Horror, Hope". She has helped organize national conferences on the church's responses to war, terrorism and torture. While here she will also appear on "Open Line with Fred Anderle" Tuesday September 18 th at 10:00a.m. If you would like to car pool to this event, please contact Deb. Bowsher at 309-0417 or call the church office.

SPOTLIGHT SUNDAYS – Today marks the first of Overbrook’s Spotlight Sundays. What’s that? It’s a special Sunday once each month when some aspect of Overbrook’s educational programs, mission, ministry, or program will be highlighted. Today’s focus on Christian Education offers many opportunity to explore before, during and after the worship service. The bulletin board across from the parlor will focus on the spotlighted area for the entire month. Spotlight Sunday may be a particularly good opportunity for you to invite a neighbor, friend, co-worker to find out more about Overbrook and its many resources!

STEPHEN MINISTERS CARE. When was the last time someone really listened to you? We’re talking about that undistracted, full attention kind of listening. That’s one of the ways Stephen  Ministers care for others. We need more Stephen Minsters to care for those who are making that long journey through the valley of a life crisis. Will you consider serving in this wat? For more information, please contact Jon Siehl (261-1040)
