CHORAL INTROIT # 322
Spirit of the Living God
LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
* CALL TO FAITH AND TO WORSHIP Psalm 91: 14-16 (NRSV)
God says: Those who love me,
I will
deliver; I will protect those who know my name.
When they call to me,
I will
answer them; I will be with them in trouble,
I will
rescue them and honor them.
With long life I will satisfy them and
show them my salvation.
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 483 Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE
ARE
on Luke 4:
1-13/wrl
Jesus
says, “Worship the Lord your God and only the Lord your God.
Serve him with absolute
single-heartedness.”
Lord, we’re easily distracted.
We think success or security can save us, or fitness and medical care.
We put trust in fire power, the surge of military might, or dead-bolts.
And we serve those like us, those closest to us, those in authority
and ourselves.
Forgive our double-heartedness,
our ease using the word “absolutely” for non-absolutes,
and the
weakness of our resolve and discipline.
Unmoor us from the world and put us adrift on your grace in Jesus.
(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
*RESPONSE # 572 Lord,
Have Mercy Upon Us
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE on 1 Corinthians 15: 1ff
This
is the good news which we have received, in which we stand,
and
through which we are still being saved:
That
Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures.
Thanks be to
God.
The
peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Peace be with you. (worshipers
share words and gestures of God’s peace)
