      LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                               From Psalm 36:5-10 (NRSV)

God’s steadfast love extends to the heavens, faithfulness to the clouds.

God’s righteousness is like mighty mountains,

God’s judgments like the great deep.

God saves humans and animals alike.

How precious is God’s steadfast love!

All take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings,

feast on the abundance of God’s house and drink from God’s river of delights.

With God is the fountain of life; in God’s light we see light.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 186                                    Thy Mercy and Thy Truth, O Lord

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                                                     from Seasons of the Spirit

Loving God, giver of all gifts, when we do not recognize the gifts that lie within us,

     Forgive us.

When we do not recognize the gifts you have granted to brothers and sisters,

     Forgive us.

When we draw back from hearing your voice calling us by name,

for fear of where your voice may lead us,

       Forgive us.

When we fear wherever tomorrow may take us,

Remind us that you are always here.

                Break into our lives and surprise us with your wondrous presence;

we pray in Christ’s name.  (time for silent, personal confession)  Amen.

*RESPONSE # 572                                                                 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE              from Seasons of the Spirit

God tells us that all may take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings.

Despite the wrong we have done, God welcomes, forgives, and loves us.

    Thanks be to God.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Peace be with you.  (worshipers share words and gestures of God’s peace)
