*PRAYER FOR GOD’S PRESENCE                          from 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 (The Message)

We gather praying that God will make us fit for what God has called us to be.

Pray that God fill our good ideas and acts of faith with God’s own energy,

so that it all amounts to something.

If our common life honors the name of Jesus, Jesus honors us.

Grace is behind and through all of this, our God giving himself freely,

the Master, Jesus Christ, giving himself freely.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 446                                  Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                                                                              on Luke 19:3/wrl

Zacchaeus was trying to see who Jesus was,...but he could not,

because he was short in stature.”

Lord, much of the time we cannot see you,

                 because we’re short—

            of interest in your presence

or of time for love’s ways.

We’re short of awareness of your cross and ours,

            and of hope in your victory;

and short of generosity to give ourselves to your victory.

As you forgive Zacchaeus, forgive us.

Call us down or up with you, and give us grace to follow.

(time for silent personal confession) Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting.

From before the beginning and past the end—God’s mercy!

In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins,

                 strengthen us in all goodness,

and by the power of the Holy Spirit, keep us in eternal life.

The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

                 Peace be with you.
