CHORAL INTROIT & LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
*CALL TO WORSHIP on Luke 15:5ff (from The Message)/ wrl
The apostles ask Jesus, “Give us more faith.”
Like them we want more faith; a glimpse of
glory; a bigger trust.
Jesus answers, “You don’t need more faith. There is no
‘more’ or ‘less’ in faith.
If you have a bare kernel of faith, say the size of a
poppy seed,
you could say to this sycamore tree,
‘Go jump in the lake,’ and it would do it.
We
come more or less with faith, kernels of it.
We
come Jesus’ company at table, as he promises,
trusting
that his presence and our faith sets the trees to dancing.
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 386 O for a World
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE on Luke 17:5ff (The Message)/wrl
Jesus says, If you have a bare kernel of faith, say the
size of a poppy seed,
you could say to this sycamore tree,
‘Go jump in the lake,’ and it would do it.”
Lord Jesus, our faith doesn’t set the trees
jumping or the world afire.
Forgive the flabbiness of our faith.
Give us will and muscle, and remind us we are servants
and
you our Master and Savior in Christ.
(time for
silent, personal confession) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE
People complain about Jesus, “This man welcomes
sinners and eats with them.”
Praise God for Jesus’ welcome. Bring on the meal that is our Lord!
