CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING. Presbyterians have long celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ by giving generously to an Advent offering. The Christmas Joy Offering dates back to the1930’s when the PCUS began an offering to supplement inadequate retirement income and provide supplemental medical insurance for former ministers, missionaries, church workers, and their families. In the late 1940’s that became the Joy Gift. In 1989 the offering was renamed the Christmas Joy Offering, and in 1991 the 203rd General Assembly changed the distribution of funds to 50 percent to the Board of Pensions and 50 percent to the Presbyterian racial ethnic schools and colleges.

NO YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TONIGHT (Grades 6 – 12) – No Youth Fellowship activities next week either so that you can spend time with family and friends. Our next meeting is January 4th when we make New Year’s resolutions. Meet at 5:45 p.m. for dinner.

TRINITY LUNCHES NEXT SUNDAY – Sunday School classes make sandwiches, bag cookies and pack sacks December 28th. Meet in the downstairs kitchen immediately following the worship service.

ANNUAL REPORTS for committees are due copy-ready by December 31, 2008. Leave them in the church office, or send via e-mail to lellett@overbrookchurch.org.

2008 PLEDGES - Finance Committee reminds everyone that contributions for 2008 must be in the church office by Wednesday, December, 31 to qualify as tax deductions for 2008. Statements of Giving for 2008 will be mailed in January. To date Stewardship has received 168 pledges for the 2009 campaign totaling $388,785.00. This represents a response from approximately 75% of the members of the congregation who received our mailing. Finance has not finalized a 2009 Operating Budget, but we are still short of the preliminary goal by $135,000. If you have not yet returned your pledge card, please thoughtfully consider that Overbrook needs your help in reaching its goals.
