WORSHIP BAGS - Fun Sunday worship bags are available at the entrance to the Sanctuary for children Pre-K – 5th grade. The blue basket is for Pre-K – 2nd grade and the red basket is for grades 3-5. Please take a bag for your child and afterwards return the bag to the baskets.

2009 FLOWER CHART FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO CONTRIBUTE SUNDAY FLOWERS is in the office.  Dates are taken first-come. Give flowers in memory or honor of someone dear or to mark an important occasion or date.

 

TRINITY LUNCHES TODAY – Sunday School classes make sandwiches, bag cookies and pack sacks in the downstairs kitchen immediately following the worship service. Next Sunday, January 4 the Deacons are responsible for the lunches.

 

THE COOKIE MONSTER IS AT IT AGAIN. We prepare lunches two weeks in a row this month depleting the cookie supply. If you have holiday cookies left and would like to give them for lunches, put them in the freezer in the downstairs kitchen.

 

ANNUAL REPORTS for all committees are due in the office by December 31, 2008. Drop them off in the church office or send via e-mail to lellett@overbrookchurch.org.

 

NO YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TONIGHT (Grades 6 – 12) – No Youth Fellowship activities next week either so that you can spend time with family and friends. Our next meeting is January 4th when we make New Year’s resolutions. Meet at 5:45 p.m. for dinner.

 

4th NIGHT TAIZE WORSHIP - Join us on this evening for a relaxing and meditative Taize Worship service beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the Parlor. There are candles, chanting and scriptures. The Faith & Fiction Book Group meets.

 

CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING as of noon on December 24 is $1,563.00. General Assembly distributes funds with 50 percent to the Board of Pensions and 50 percent to the Presbyterian racial ethnic schools and colleges.

 

2008 PLEDGES - Finance Committee reminds everyone that contributions for 2008 must be in the church office by Wednesday, December, 31 to qualify as tax deductions for 2008. Statements of Giving for 2008 will be mailed in January. To date Stewardship has received 180 pledges for the 2009 campaign totaling $405,545.00. Finance has not finalized a 2009 Operating Budget, but we are still short of the preliminary goal by $110,000. If you have not yet returned your pledge card, please thoughtfully consider that Overbrook needs your help in reaching its goals.

 

F.O.O.D. SUNDAY is January 4.  This month’s contributions go to Community Resource Center (CRC). The Friendship Class has been collecting food during Advent and plan to take all of your generous donations to the Resource Center on January 11. To date the Friendship Class has received $854.00 in monetary donations and filled over 7 boxes with food and personal care products.

 

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE.  Columbus Literacy Council provides free instruction to adults in reading and English as a second language and depends on volunteers to help with tutoring or other support services.  For information about enrolling in a program or to learn more about volunteer opportunities, call 221-5013 or visit the Columbus Literacy Council web site at www.columbusliteracy.org.  Information sessions about volunteering are offered at the Columbus Literacy Council office, 195 North Grant Avenue.  The next class will be held on Tuesday, January 6 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

 

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE is offering an Inquirers’ Course for people interested in learning more about Overbrook Church and possibly becoming new members beginning January 25, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. in the South Parlor. Please encourage visitors, new neighbors and friends you think might be interested in our church to come and find out more about the Presbyterian Church in general and Overbrook Church in particular.
