FELLOWSHIP AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES. Sign up sheets to express interest in various activities –many of them new—are posted on the bulletin board across from the parlor. They will remain posted throughout the month of January. Take a look and sign up if something interests you, or add your idea to the “other activities” list. Signing up indicates interest—not a commitment.”

Classes will also meet on February 3, 10 and 17 at which time you will be welcomed into the congregation. If you plan to attend classes, notify the church office.

MARK THE DAY!  -  JANUARY 27, 2008!  -  CELEBRATE GOD’S CREATION!

We will gather for worship in thanks and celebration for God’s wonderful gift of creation. We welcome to OPC, Greg Hitzhusen, PhD. Greg is a Lecturer in the Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources and is working to develop programs with the Ohio Council of Churches and local seminaries. Greg will lead a discussion at 9:00 am in the Adult Forum on what churches all over the country have been doing in caring for and stewardship of our planet and the environment in which we live. At 10:30 am, he will preach at morning worship, assisted by Overbrookers who have been active since the spring of 2006 in raising awareness of what we can do as good stewards of God’s precious gift. Come and give thanks, and learn simple things that you can do to be a good steward.

COFFEE HOUSE FLASHBACK! Remember Civil Rights sit-ins, hippies, JFK, RFK, MLK, mini-skirts, afros, tie-dye?  On Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 come to a candlelit coffeehouse in Fellowship Hall where you can step into the turbulent 60’s as local resident (and PRI reporter) Bill Cohen guides us through the decade with folksongs, news reports, displays, posters, trivia questions, and far out 60’s fashions.  This program is open to the community, so you are encouraged to bring your friends and neighbors for this special event.  The program is geared to adults and mature teens.  A $5.00 donation is suggested to support the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center.

COMING SOON! The Overbrook Preschool 24th Annual Sub Sandwich Sale. Order forms are available in the Narthex and the order deadline is February 1, 2008.

LENT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. We begin the Lenten season with our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, February 5 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Our Board of Ushers flip the pancakes and cook the sausage. Fruit and beverages are also served. The meal is free, but a free-will offering is taken.

LENTEN LECTURE SERIES BEGINS AT OPC! You’re invited to attend! During Lent, friends and members of Overbrook Presbyterian Church have shared in learning and growing in faith. This year the Rev. Dr. Brad Binau, Professor of Pastoral Theology at Trinity Lutheran Seminary returns to Overbrook as guest lecturer. His five lecture series entitled “Elijah Comes First” begins Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Binau offers great insights on the meaning and value of the prophet Elijah’s life work to contemporary life. The series concludes March 12. A soup supper will be offered to all who attend Dr. Binau’s lectures beginning at 6:30 p.m. A brief prayer service will also precede the lecture. A welcoming, open community, Overbrook welcomes anyone who wishes to attend the suppers, prayer services and/pr lectures! For more details, call the church at 261-1040.

CALLING ALL SOUP CHEFS! You are invited to create a soup to share with your Overbrook family during the annual Soup Supper Series – and give your church family the gift of time! This year volunteer chefs are asked to prepare their choice of soup for all who attend, as well as a simple salad. Though we ask that you also pick up the bread and beverages for the meal, the church will reimburse you for these. As many Christians maintain a simpler way of life during Lent we invite you to consider whether or not you want to serve dessert the evening you prepare the soup. It’s up to you. ONLY the chef of the evening needs to bring food to share. We know this is asking more from each chef than ever before, but we hope you will see this as an opportunity to give of yourself to your church family. By having just one person fix the complete meal everyone else can really spend time enjoying one another’s company.
