WELCOME, VISITORS & GUESTS Overbrook, as part of The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), “shall welcome all persons who respond in trust and obedience to God’s grace in Jesus Christ and desire to become part of the membership and ministry of his Church. No persons shall be denied membership because of race, ethnic origin, worldly condition, or any other reason not related to profession of faith. Each member must seek the grace of openness in extending the fellowship of Christ to all persons … Failure to do so constitutes a rejection of Christ himself and causes a scandal to the gospel.  [Book of Order:  The Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), G-5.0103 “Inclusiveness”]

Sign the Friendship Pad in the pew pocket; with your address and phone number.  Use a visitor nametag so that we can greet and welcome you. After worship, visit the Information Center in the Narthex.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is wearing a yellow carnation, she’s in the Narthex after worship to hear concerns.

FRIENDS OF OVERBROOK LIBRARY, meet today immediately following the worship service in the Library.

NEW BEGINNINGS, a group for all singles, meets in the South Parlor today at noon for a potluck lunch. Even if you forgot to prepare a dish, stay to attend.

PARTICIPATE IN 2008 CARD PLAYING TODAY in the Parlor from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. To date the cards group has played bridge, euchre and kings in the corner. Myra Dull has instructions for bridge and other games, including euchre, with odd numbers of players. Several people have been working on learning bridge at our get-togethers, and have been making progress! If you think you want to give it a try, or know someone else who might, feel free to join us. We have scheduled cards for the first and third Sundays of the month from 2-4 p.m. We will continue with this schedule at least through July. If attendance warrants, we’ll continue through August and then move into a fall schedule.

MISSION TRIP PARTICIPANTS MEET today at 4 p.m. in Room 33. Youth and their parents and all adult work campers are encouraged to attend.  The group will, with Broadstreeters also going to Colcord this summer, listen as the Reverend Jeff Myers (who served churches in WV) acquaints us with the rich culture of Appalachia, shares pizza dinner with us, and leads us in worship.

WOMEN OF OVERBROOK BIBLE STUDY GROUP. You are invited to join in Bible study Tuesday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlor. This lesson concludes the study using chapters 2 through 4 of Ruth.  Although Ruth was a “faithful foreigner,” she embraced Naomi’s nation and religion as she declared “your people shall be my people and your God my God.”  How did this decision affect the rest of her life?

LISTENING ELDER for May will be available in the Narthex after worship to hear any matter in our congregation’s life you’d like conveyed to Session.

FRIDAY NIGHT BOARD GAMES are on summer sabbatical until September. Watch for an announcement when they will resume.

STEPHEN MINISTERS COMMISSIONING. During next Sunday’s worship service, May 25, Overbrook will commission three new Stephen Ministers: Fred Connell, Marcia Hershey, and Judith Sandford. These gifted people, who have completed an extensive training program, will strengthen our congregation’s gift of caring ministry to those who are grieving or otherwise in need. Please show your support and appreciation for their dedication and ministry by attending the commissioning service, and stay after the service to enjoy light refreshments in celebration of our new Stephen Ministers.

HONOR OUR VETERANS! The Presbytery of Scioto Valley is sponsoring a worship service to honor all veterans on Sunday, May 25, 7:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road, Columbus. The service will offer thanksgiving for the sacrifices of military personnel on behalf of our nation. Lt. Col. Robert Bramlish, State Family Program Director of the Ohio National Guard, will speak to us about ways that congregations can help families of deployed soldiers. Rev. John Groat, Pastor Emeritus of Marysville Presbyterian Church and Chaplain of the Union County Military Families Support Group, will preach. An offering will be received for Operation Military Kids Camp which helps send children of deployed Ohio soldiers to camp. A reception will follow. The service is the beginning of a Presbytery-wide outreach of ministry to veterans and their families.

THE 2008 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS COMING! This year’s theme is the Rain Forest and is coming to the great outdoors of Overbrook July 14-18 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Invite your friends and neighbors. Keep a birds-eye view out for upcoming forest events.
