INTERESTED IN BECOMING PRESBYTERIAN OR JOINING
OVERBROOK? The Membership Committee
is conducting an inquirer’s class beginning September 21 from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m.
for 4 weeks in the Library. If you or someone you know would be interested in
attending these classes, please let the church office know.
FRIENDS OF OVERBROOK LIBRARY gather next Sunday, September 14 to review their
progress and finalize plans towards an improved library. Please plan to join us
in the library between 11:45 and 12:15 for this important update!
KNOW THY NEIGHBOR. Do you recognize everyone sitting around you in church? Do you
remember their names? The Membership Committee is designating September as “Wear your Nametag Month”. The
Committee is encouraging everyone to wear their nametag during the month of
September and hopefully to keep wearing them thereafter. You may exchange your
nametag that has a pin clasp for one with a clip. Clip-on tags will be
available at the nametag board. You are encouraged to get creative with your
nametag, if you desire, by adding color, logos, borders, decorations. A member
of the membership committee will be available before and after the service at
the nametag board to assist you with finding and replacing your name tag.
CHRISTIANITY’S FAMILY TREE – Ever wondered what
theological ideas set Pentecostal, Anglican, Eastern Orthodox or Baptist
beliefs apart from those of Presbyterians? How do the LDS compare to other
forms of Christianity? Please join us One Sunday a month this year to
learn about how the other branches of American Christianity compare to Reformed
(Presbyterian) thought. Beginning September 21 we’ll meet with Deb Bowsher
right after worship on the third Sunday of the month to compare and contrast
these traditions. We’ll look at Anglican beliefs this month! Our text, Christianity’s Family Tree, can be
bought at the church office for $10 but is NOT required.
CELEBRATION GARDEN BRICKS. We are putting together
an order to have bricks engraved for the Celebration Garden. Now is the time to
order your brick to celebrate a special event in your life – new child,
graduation, birthday, or just to celebrate and honor the life of someone
special. Memorial bricks are also available to honor the memory of a family
member or friend who has passed away. The cost is still $50 for each brick.
Order forms are available in the office.
NEWS FROM A PRESBYTERY SPECIAL
MEETING. A special meeting was called on July 8 by The Presbytery of Scioto Valley.
One purpose was to examine Collin Adams for ordination to ministry of Word and
Sacrament and to approve the call of the Columbus Westminster Church to him as
pastor. Collin’s Statement of Faith can be found on the bulletin board in the
Narthex. Collin is a dynamic and
personable young man who will be an
asset to his church and the faith here in Central Ohio. He comes from the
Presbytery of Northeast GA.
