9:30 A.M. CHAPEL CLASS TODAY: This Sunday the class will be discussing Matthew 20: 17-28. “the son of man came not to be served but to serve”

WELCOME, VISITORS & GUESTS - Sign the Friendship Pad in the pew pocket; with your address and phone number.  Use a visitor nametag so that we can greet and welcome you. After worship, visit the Information Center in the Narthex.

 

WORSHIP BAGS - Fun Sunday worship bags are available at the entrance to the Sanctuary for children Pre-K – 5th grade. The blue basket is for Pre-K – 2nd grade and the red basket is for grades 3-5. Please take a bag for your child and afterwards return the bag to the baskets.

TODAY’S CONCERNED DEACON is wearing a yellow carnation.  She’s in the Narthex after worship to hear concerns.

 

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TODAY in the Sanctuary immediately following the worship service for the purpose of electing officers and 2009 Nominating Committee. Officer training begins Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.

 

TRINITY LUNCHES TODAY are the responsibility of Youth Fellowship. Meet immediately following the congregation meeting to make sandwiches, bag cookies and pack sacks. Next Sunday Add-A-Couple I is responsible.

 

FOURTH NIGHT TAIZE WORSHIP this evening begins at 6:15 p.m. in the Parlor. There are candles, chanting and scriptures. The Faith & Fiction group is reading River of Heaven by OSU Professor, Lee Martin; a story of two brothers, a life time of estrangement and the secret that lies between them.

 

FOOD SUNDAY – OCTOBER 5. This month’s contributions are designated for Community Resource Center (CRC) who request: soups, tuna, canned vegetables, macaroni & cheese, and personal hygiene products. Place items in grocery carts in the Narthex.

 

ADULT FORUM on October 5 we welcome Dr. Jim Schnell – Professor of communication studies – Ohio Dominican University. He will talk about “Why politicians speak the way they do and what they are attempting to achieve.”

 

WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY – October 5. We make offerings for Peacemaking. Deacons are sent to share communion with those who can’t gather at the Sunday morning table. Peacemaking envelopes are in the pew pockets. As on all Communion Sundays, the loose offering goes to the Board of Deacons for their continual support of the congregation.

 

ONE SUNDAY WITH REV. LEETY will not meet next Sunday, October 5. Look for bulletin announcements on the next time this class will meet and who will lead it.

 

HEY YOUTH GRADES 6-12! We are going on a Magic Mountain outing, Sunday, October 5, from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Meet in the Narthex following the worship service. Bring money and friends.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! The Christian Education and John Beltz Retreat Committees are joining together for the Annual Fall Walk and Church Wide Picnic. Get ready for pumpkin carving, hayrides, cook out and a walk through the fall foliage. The event takes place, Sunday, October 26 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the JBRC. Invite your family and friends. Hotdogs and drinks are provided, we ask that you bring a dish to share. Transportation is available.

 

SEPTEMBER IS “WEAR YOUR NAMETAG MONTH”! Do you recognize everyone sitting around you in church? Do you remember their names? The Membership Committee  encourages wearing nametags during the month of September and hopefully thereafter. You may exchange your nametag that has a pin clasp for one with a clip. Clip-on tags will be available at the nametag board. You are encouraged to get creative with your nametag, if you desire, by adding color, logos, borders, decorations. A member of the Membership Committee will be available before and after the service at the nametag board to assist you with finding and replacing your name tag.

 

ANNUAL YOUTH CAR WASH – October 12. Come to church and get your car washed while you worship! Car washers worship in the Chapel at 8:30 and begin washing cars from

9 a.m. to 12 noon. All donations go towards our sponsorship of orphaned children.

 

ALL THAT JAZZ!! On Loyalty Sunday, October 19, we have a guest jazz ensemble to lead worship. At 12:00 Noon the Stewardship Committee hosts lunch in Fellowship Hall when they will update us on where the “Gifts for the Future” projects stand. The lunch is “Potluck”. Drinks, rolls and meat will be furnished. Last names beginning with A through L are asked to bring vegetables or fruit dishes and M through Z desserts to share.

 

UNIVERSITY NEIGHBORS SEEK MEMENTOS. Have you ever lived, worked or owned a business in the University District near Ohio State? “History Shared, History Saved” is a project to collect memorabilia relating to the neighborhood’s rich history. All items will be stored in a special collection at the Ohio Historical Center and also may be used in exhibits and displayed on the University District web site.
