*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                                      from Homiletics

            God of rainbow and promise,

God of the swirling waters of baptism,

God of the dark night of doubt,

                 God of comfort and call,

Dwell with us as we journey through this season of Lent.

Lead us from temptation to trust, from fear to love, from despair to hope,

and from sadness to joy with Jesus Christ.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 426                              Lord, Speak to Me, That I May Speak

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                                                               on John 4:5-42/wrl

Lord Jesus, you meet us at watering holes,

places of our basic thirst for water and one another:

We have grown careless with water all living things need for life.

We foul purity, dry up streams by development, pollute oceans.

And there are personal sins we despise and sins we enjoy,

and both kinds distance us from one another and from you.

Forgive and renew us with the living water you offer in Jesus.

(time for silent, personal confession)  Amen.

*RESPONSE # 572                                                                 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE              from John 3:16ff (The Message)

This is how much God loves the world:  He gave his Son, his one and only Son.

            And this is why:  so that no one need be destroyed;

By believing in him anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son

merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it is.

Jesus came to help, to put the world right again.

Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted!

                 Thank God!

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

                 Peace be with you.

(Worshipers express God’s peace in word and gesture)
