LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
*CALL TO WORSHIP from
Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Though earth changes and
mountains shake into the sea, we will not fear,
for God is with us.
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The Holy One of earth and heaven is with
us.
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 379 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE
In the time of Noah, earth
had been dirtied by the wickedness of people.
Holy
God:
We dirty your creation still and again:
fouling your
waters,
leaving
footprints of carbon in the air and on our lungs,
filling land with
trash that outlasts us,
threatening whole
populations with nuclear radiation or waste.
Forgive us, Lord.
Spare us, spare the human family as you spared Noah,
at the cost borne in the love of
Jesus Christ our Lord.
(time for silent, personal confession to God) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE
& THE PEACE
To make confession is to build an ark, and to count on God’s mercy.
We ride the dinghy of our
repentance for the next 40 days,
knowing that God is not only part of the storm outside and
in us,
but that God calms our storms with mercy.
God is our refuge and strength.
We will not fear.
Thanks
be to God that in Jesus Christ we are forgiven!
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you
all.
Peace be
with you.
(worshipers greet one another with words and gestures of peace)
