*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                               from Psalm 16: 8-11 (NRSV)

          We keep the LORD always before us;

           because the Lord is near we shall not be moved.

                 Therefore hearts are glad, and souls rejoice; our bodies also rest secure.

          For God does not give us or our beloved up to destruction.

                 God shows the path of life. With God is fullness of joy;

                 in God’s hand pleasures forevermore.

*HYMN # 119        (Sing Refrain before stanza 1 and after stanza 4)       The Strife Is O’er

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH                                      from 1 Peter 1: 3-9 (Jerusalem Bible)

          Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

               Who in great mercy gives us a new birth as daughters and sons,

               by raising Jesus Christ from the head;

               so that we have a sure hope

               and a promise that can never be spoiled or soiled, and never fade away,

               a promise kept for us in the heavens.

               Through faith, God’s power guards us

               until the salvation which has been prepared is revealed at the end of time.

               This is a cause of great joy for us.

               The sure end to which our faith looks forward is the saving of our souls.

*THE PEACE

            The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

                 Peace be with you.

(Worshipers exchange words and gestures of the peace of Christ)
