LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
*CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 8 (
Lord, our Lord, how great your name throughout the earth!
Above the heavens is your majesty
chanted.
You set your
stronghold firm against your foes,
to subdue enemies
and rebels.
I look at your heavens made by your fingers,
at the moon
and the stars you set in place—
What are humans that you spare a
thought for them?
Mortals that you care
for them?
Yet you crown them with glory and splendor,
and set the
works of your hands under their feet.
Lord,
our Lord, how great your name throughout the earth!
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 138 Holy,
Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE from
Call to Worship
Father of
lights, Mother of all:
You created
the heavens and the earth,
making everything
good—even glorious.
Jesus Christ,
Light of the world, Savior:
you have made us
your brothers and sisters
and commissioned
us to bear your name out into the world.
Holy Spirit,
our Comfort and Guide:
you enlighten us
with wisdom to know what is right
and with humility to make this confession:
that we have been
poor stewards of the earth,
clumsy and
spiritless disciples, unjust in dealing with others,
divided in our witness and devotion to you.
Forgive us,
God, Jesus, Holy Spirit.
By your grace,
love and fellowship make of us new creations
who are good and
pleasing in your sight.
(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE
As tenderly as a father mothers the children, the Lord treats those who
love him.
God takes our sins farther away than
east is from west.
In
Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you
all.
Peace be
with you.
(worshipers share words and gestures of the peace of Christ)
