*CALL TO WORSHIP

               God sets a long, broad table with places enough for everyone.

                  Today we eat not from the dollar menu, but at a feast of grace.

            Jesus is host, and we, with all others, come at his bidding.

                  The food isn’t fast, and preparation to eat takes a lifetime;

                  No self-service!  Christ serves this banquet

                          and becomes the specialty of God’s house.

            Praise God!  Thanks be to Christ for inviting us to be served.

*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 513                                       Let Us Break Bread Together

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE FOR WORLD COMMUNION                       wrl

We come to this table seeking or trusting Christ.

Lord Jesus:

If we look with less than love at fellow guests, forgive.

If we have forgotten our manners with you or the others, forgive.

If we come with penitence for sin,

     but without joy in your forgiveness and invitation, pardon.

If we have no hunger, give us an appetite for just and right living

     before we leave your promised presence here.

(time for silent, personal confession)  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE                    from Romans 10: 5-15

            God is generous to all who call on God.

            The word is near to us, on our lips and in our hearts.

            Everyone who calls on the name of the Holy God shall be saved.

                Thank God!

            The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

                 Peace be with you.

(worshipers exchange signs and words of the peace of Christ)

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE

God sets a long, broad table with places enough for everyone.

                  Today we eat not from the dollar menu, but at a feast of grace.

            Jesus is host, and we, with all others, come at his bidding

Not one of us deserves and invitation…we have first refused to serve as the Lord
commands, and so our service even when we got around to it was grudging;

            Or we said we’d serve, and simply have not served.

                  The food of this table isn’t fast, but takes lifelong preparation;

                  No self-service!  Christ serves this banquet

and becomes the specialty of God’s house.

            Praise God! Thanks be to Christ for inviting us to be served.

            Come with joy to meet our Lord, our host, our bread, our life.

GREAT PRAYER

            The Lord be with you.

                 And also with you.

            Lift up your hearts.

                 We lift them to the Lord.

            Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

                 It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is right and our duty to give to God….  With the faithful of every tribe, nation and age:

     Holy, holy, holy Lord…God of power and might…..

You are holy, God, and holy is your child and servant Jesus.  He keeps your word, shows your
love; and welcomes servants who refuse in word or deed to do your bidding. He eats with the
likes of us!...We proclaim the mystery of faith, the mystery of your love, your invitation, your
command:

     Christ has died.  Christ is here.  Christ comes again.

God and Jesus whose Spirit is Holiness:  we are here at your bidding.  Now be with us, shaping
us with your love to faithful discipleship, to integrity of word and work, in Jesus whose word is
your work and whose work is your word.
