F.O.O.D. SUNDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED—one or two people to deliver Food Sunday contributions to food pantries who serve the city.  You must be able to lift small cartons of can goods.  Usually there is someone to help load and unload your vehicle. If willing, contact Ethel Hurley, Volunteer Coordinator at 262-5798, or tell the Concerned Deacon after worship.

 

2009 LENT DEVOTIONAL GUIDE – “MIRACLES UPON MIRACLES”  The guide will contain at least one meditation for each week of Lent leading to Holy Week; and one each day between Palm Sunday and Easter. Sign up to write on one of Jesus’ miracles from the list in the office. Deadline:  to Lorie Ellett or Deb Bowsher today!

 

ASH WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 25. A service of communion by intinction at 7 p.m. (Previously published as 7:30 p.m.) to be followed at 7:30 by Dr. Johnson or Jackson giving the first in a Lent Wednesday lecture series on Jesus’ Women Disciples.

 

GOT MILK? OR MAKE SOUP? We are looking for a few more cooks to prepare the evening soup and salad for the upcoming Lenten Series. Dinner begins at 6:15 p.m. in the South Parlor. A sign-up sheet is in the office. Please mark the type of soup you are thinking of making so that we don’t have vegetable soup for 6 weeks in a row.

FEBRUARY ADULT FORUM - Sunday, February 15 Dr. David Ball “What’s Ethics Got to Do With It?” Dr. Ball is an attorney, pastor, and adjunct professor at OSU in Ethics. Then on February 22 the Rev. Skip Cornett from Trinity Seminary brings “Judeo-Christian Issues”-- Israeli-Palestinian conflict from historical and religious perspectives.

 

EMPLOYMENT UNCERTAINTY - Parish Associate Rev. Tom McGloshen, Ph.D leads people experiencing employment uncertainty in reflection and mindfulness about their current and next chapters.  The group meets again Wednesday, February 11, in the Conference Room, starting at 9 a.m., breaking in late morning for sandwiches.  All are invited to participate and assist others coping with job loss, reduction, and search.

 

CHRISTIANITY FAMILY TREE welcomes two members of the Columbus Mennonite Church on Sunday, February 15 immediately following worship. Melonie Buller and Fred Suter will talk about the Mennonite and Anabaptist tradition, how it is similar to and different from Presbyterian Reformed tradition and how they interact with today’s world. The Mennonites are well known as peace activists, so expect discussion of their views on issues effecting us all. Everyone is welcome!

 

SPRING FEST CONFERENCE – The Presbytery of Scioto Valley’s annual spring conference is taking place at the Drake Center, The Ohio State University on Saturday, March 7, 2009, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Still Reforming …..Should Everything Change?” The keynote speaker is Dr. Diana Butler-Bass. Cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Registrations can be made on-line at www.psvonline.org. Everyone is welcome!

NEW BEGINNINGS, a group for all singles, meets Sunday, February 15 in the South Parlor for a potluck luncheon following worship.

SESSION CALLS ANNUAL MEETING of the congregation for Sunday, Feb. 22, at 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Session will serve a light lunch before the business of reviewing annual reports, electing officers, recognizing volunteers of the year, and considering terms of call of the pastor.

 

SUNDAY FUN ACTIVITY BAGS:  Sunday Fun Activity bags are available at the entrance to the Sanctuary for children Pre-K – 5th grade. The blue basket is for Pre-K – 2nd grade and the red basket is for grades 3-5. Please take a bag for your child and afterwards return the bag to the baskets.
