SUNDAY FUN ACTIVITY BAGS - Sunday Fun Activity bags are available at the entrance to the Sanctuary for children Pre-K – 5th grade. The blue basket is for Pre-K – 2nd grade and the red basket is for grades 3-5. Please take a bag for your child and afterwards return the bag to the baskets.

CHRISTIANITY’S FAMILY TREE group study will learn about Eastern Orthodoxy after worship on January 25th.  You are welcome to join us.  Mark Dravillas will share insights on his family’s beautiful Greek traditions!  There is no pre-reading to do – just come as you are!

 

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TONIGHT (Grades 6 – 12) – Meet at church at 5:45 p.m. for dinner, followed by Game Night.  On January 18, Service Adventure, 5:45 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

 

PLEDGE PROGRESS - To date, Stewardship has received 194 pledges for the 2009 campaign totaling $420,395. Finance has not finalized the 2009 Operating Budget, but we are still short of the preliminary goal by approximately $94,240. If you have not yet returned your pledge card, please thoughtfully consider that Overbrook needs your help in reaching its goals.

 

FRIENDSHIP CLASS FOOD DRIVE collected nearly 900 pounds of food and $924 in cash for the Community Resource Center (CRC).  Thanks to all for helping!  This morning, the Friendship Class is meeting at CRC’s Sunday breakfast program and is presenting a symbolic basket of food.

 

CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING – A total of $2,351 was offered in support of retired missionaries and Presbyterian minority education.

 

WESTMINSTER-THURBER LIFE CARE FUND – A total of $994.60 was offered on Christmas Eve for the Westminster-Thurber Life Care Fund.

 

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS in Bill Leety’s office today from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 – 12:00 noon.

 

TODAY WE COME TO THE LORD’S TABLE – Loose offering on Communion Sundays goes to the work of Deacons in their continuing care in support of the congregation.

 

WE SERVE YWCA FAMILY CENTER TODAY – Please sign-up to supply food or to serve dinner.  We transport the meal at 4:45 p.m.; serve from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; return to Overbrook by 8 p.m.

 

CARD GAMES – A reminder that card playing will resume next Sunday, January 18, from 2-4 p.m.  Bring yourself – bring some friends!  Also, please bring the kind of cards you like to play.

 

NEW BEGININGS, a group for all singles, meets next Sunday, January 18, in the South Parlor for a potluck luncheon immediately following worship.

 

LAID OFF, DOWNSIZED, seeking employment, making career change?

Parish Associate Rev. Tom McGloshen, Ph.D, meets again with those experiencing employment uncertainty, helping their reflection and mindfulness about their current chapters and where they go from here.  All interested are welcome on Wednesday, January 14, in the South Parlor, starting at 9 a.m., breaking in late morning for sandwiches.  It’s an effort to serve members and others in this time of unemployment and underemployment.  Email wrleety@overbrookchurch or tmcgloshen@aol.com, or phone 261-1040 to ask questions or let us know of your attendance. Tom brings a wealth of experience in career and job counsel.  He is a Professional Clinical Counselor and Independent Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, where he also does career development work.  He is currently Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at OSU.  He also served as Parish Associate at Highlands Presbyterian Church for 14 years and is now Parish Associate at Overbrook.

 

OVERBROOK WILL BE HOSTING a youth group from the Presbyterian Church of Decatur, former congregation of the Connell family, on January 21st as they make their way back to Illinois after attending the Presidential inauguration.

 

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE.  Columbus Literacy Council provides free instruction to adults in reading and speaking English as a second language.  The Council depends on volunteers to tutor or give other support services.  For information about enrolling, or to learn more about volunteer opportunities, call 221-5013 or visit the Columbus Literacy Council web site at www.columbusliteracy.org.  Information sessions about volunteering are offered at Columbus Literacy Council office, 195 North Grant Avenue.  The next class will be held Saturday, February 21, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
