*CALL TO WORSHIP Call to Worship, Vol. 42.1
At the baptism of Jesus, God said:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
When we hear God’s call to prayer, God is summoning us:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
When we hear God’s call to service, God is inviting us:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
When we hear God’s call to repentance, God is welcoming us:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
When we feel God’s absence, God is still supporting us:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
Let us worship the God of our baptism, the God who blesses us still.
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN #492 Baptized in Water
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE from Call to Worship, Vol. 42.1
Creating God, your voice is heard over the waters.
In the waters of baptism you claim us, yet we resist your claim,
lining up with those coming to John at the Jordan,
awaiting a word of judgment.
Forgive our shallow trust.
Help us follow your Son, our Lord,
who surrendered himself to you in baptism
and heard you speak how he pleases you.
Deepen our faith so that we too surrender ourselves to you.
(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE
When we hear God’s call to repentance, God is welcoming us:
“You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.”
In God’s welcome and love, we take our peace.
The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with us all.
Peace be with you.
(worshipers greet each other with words and gestures of peace)
