WE GIVE

PER CAPITA OFFERING:  Do you know that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is organized into three levels of programs, government, and mission?  The local level is the Presbytery of Scioto Valley, which is an organization of 113 Presbyterian churches in central and southern Ohio.  The second level is the Synod of the Covenant, which is made up of the 11 presbyteries in Ohio and Michigan.  The third level is the national organization, the General Assembly with offices in Louisville KY.  Our congregation supports all three levels by paying a per-member fee, called the Per Capita Fee.  For 2010 this fee is $33.31 per member at Overbrook.  We are proud to be Presbyterians and happy to be able to assist the Greater Presbyterian Church in the USA with its purpose and mission.  We offer each of you the opportunity to support Overbrook with an additional donation to this purpose.  The amount we request from each is $20, as members with offering envelopes have already noted.  Please consider giving an extra amount to help support the Greater Church.  If you are able to contribute to this special offering, please note “Per Capita” on your check.

LET’S GO KROGERING! Every little bit counts! Do you ever shop at Kroger? If so, you can sign up to help Overbrook earn monetary contributions.  Overbrook is now part of the Kroger Community Rewards Program, earning contributions from the Kroger Company based on the amount of money our participating members spend when using their Kroger Plus Card.  This program does not affect your Kroger Plus Reward Points in any way, so it is harmless to you but could be very helpful to the Church.  You can sign up to participate on the internet at http:// www.krogercommunityrewards.com. You must have a Kroger Plus Shoppers card to register and participate so get yours out and sign up to participate now. If you do not have access to the online sign-up method, please call 1-800-837-4483 to learn about the alternative sign-up method.  We will soon have a link on the Church web site, www.overbrookchurch.org, just click on the “SUPPORT OVERBROOK THROUGH THE KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM and see how we can earnlink on the home page. Thank you for your support and cooperation.  Michael Johnson, Stewardship Chair.

CONVERSATION TIME AFTER WORSHIP - Would you like to hear other’s thoughts about faith in light of the service today, and think more about your own response?  You’re invited to step into the Chapel after the service for Conversation Time After Worship for an opportunity for worshipers to share what the service has placed on their hearts and minds, and discuss their questions.  The chapel is set aside for these conversations for about half an hour after worship.  Here are some questions that may prompt our conversations this week:

We’re all tempted by what we know we shouldn’t do, or paralyzed by choices of what we should do.  What do you consider your minor temptations and what do you consider your major temptations?  (What makes them different?)  Do you deal with them differently?

Jesus faced difficult choices.  When you’re faced with difficult choices, do the means justify the ends, or the ends justify the means?

What has been the “wilderness” in your life?  We sometimes allow times of dryness to curl us up into a bitter survival mode, or stretch us to be more thankful and aware of what is really important.  What has been your response to “wilderness” times?

OUR WEDNESDAY LENT SERIES starts February 24 and runs through March 24.    Soup suppers served at 6:15 p.m. in the South Parlor will be followed by a presentation    and study on Isaiah by Dr. Paul Kim, Professor at The Methodist Theological School of Ohio. Dr. Kim’s expertise is in Old Testament prophetic literature and Biblical Theology.  His presentations will explore issues of redemption, justice, lament and how we can use the lens of film to make sense of these topics during our Lenten journey. Please come and join us for soup, conversation, and interesting presentations.  Consider it one of your Lent habits in preparation for Easter! Soup is served beginning at 6:15 until 7 p.m., so if you can’t arrive until 6:40 a place at the table, and a bowl of hot soup are still yours.  From 7 to 7:15 we have evening prayer in the Parlor. Presentations and studies are 7:15 to 8:15.
