SERVICE
FOR MAUNDY THURSDAY
April
1, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
GATHERED
IN GOD’S NAME
IN SILENCE from the Passover Seder
“In every generation,
persons should look upon themselves as if each personally had
come out of
Egypt.” We are all in pain. We are all strangers in a strange land. And the
proper way
to acknowledge suffering is to relieve the suffering of others.

SILENT PROCESSION
*PRAYER FOR
GOD’S PRESENCE from Worship
Source book,

Institute of Christian Worship
Holy God, we come to worship in the gathering shadows
of Jesus’ suffering and death.
We come with his
friends,
the men and women who have followed him
in every place and generation,
to live once again this story of service
and betrayal, of weakness and courage.
We come to witness your love in action.
Be with us, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*CALL TO AND
PRAYER OF CONFESSION from Worship
Source book,
Calvin
Institute of Christian Worship
O Lord Jesus Christ, you are enthroned in the majesty of
heaven,
yet you gave
up that heavenly perfection to become a servant.
We adore you for laying aside your glory
and clothing yourself in complete
humility as one of us.
We
praise you for the example of washing your disciples’ feet.
Teach us to do as you have done.
Deliver us from pride, jealousy, and ambition,
and make us ready to serve one another in lowliness for your sake,
O Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
(time for silent, personal confession)
*ASSURANCE
OF PARDON John 13:14 & Luke 15:1-2
After washing disciples’ feet, Jesus says,
If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet,
you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to
you.
And
the authorities said of Jesus,
“This
fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
Jesus,
one who gives God’s commands, still welcomes sinners and eats with us.
Thank
God!
The
peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Peace
be with you.
(worshipers exchange words and gestures of
the peace of Christ)
