GATHER IN GOD’S NAME
IN SILENCE Walter Brueggemann,
“Awed to heaven, rooted in earth,” Awed to Heaven, Rooted to Earth: Prayers….
That
is how it is when we praise you (God).
We join the angels in praise
and we keep our feet in time and
place…awed to heaven, rooted in earth.
We are daily stretched between
communion with you and our bodied lives,
spent but alive, summoned and
cherished but stretched between.
And we are reminded that before
us there has been this One
truly
divine (at ease with the angels) truly human…dwellers in time and
space.
We
are thankful for him, and glad to be in his missional company. Alleluia.
Amen.
PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP (Hymn # 479)
Angels, teach us adoration, You behold God face to face;
Sun and moon and all creation, Dwellers
all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the
God of grace!

CHIMES & CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP
LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
*CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 99:4
(Jerusalem Bible)
God is a ruler who loves justice, insisting on
honesty, justice, virtue;
As God has done for God’s people.
Let us praise the Lord our God and worship.
Remembering and declaring: “Holy is the
Lord!”
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 489 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty
*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE
God
whose name is Glory: we are people who
have had, or want to have,
experiences with your risen Son, our
brother Jesus.
And yet we find your appearances
difficult to talk about together,
and your absences and our doubts
equally difficult to share.
We
understand the terror of followers who saw you shining and kept still;
and know that for us too, tomorrow will
call us to speak and act
against pain and suffering we see and
hear.
Forgive
our failures to speak of deep things.
Prepare us to be awed by the glory of
your heaven
and to sink our lives deep into the soil of earth.
(time for silent, personal confession) Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF WHOSE WE ARE & THE PEACE
As a parent consoling and stilling a child, so God treats
us.
God takes our sin further away from us than
east is from west.
In the love and mercy of Jesus Christ, we are
forgiven.
Thank God!
The peace of the forgiving Lord be with you all.
Peace be with you.
(worshipers share words and gestures of the
peace of Christ)

PER CAPITA OFFERING: Did you know that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is
organized into three levels
of programs, government, and mission? The local level is the
Presbytery of Scioto Valley,
which is an organization of 113 Presbyterian churches in central
and southern Ohio. The
second level is the Synod of the Covenant, which is made up of the
11 presbyteries in Ohio and
Michigan. The third level is the national organization, the
General Assembly with offices
in Louisville KY. Our congregation supports all three levels
by paying a per-member fee,
called the Per Capita Fee. For 2010 this fee is $33.31 per
member at Overbrook. We
are proud to be Presbyterians and happy to be able to assist the
Greater Presbyterian Church
in the USA with its purpose and mission. We offer each of you
the opportunity to support
Overbrook with an additional donation to this purpose. The
amount we request from each
is $20.00, as members with offering envelopes have already
noted. Please consider
giving an extra amount to help support the Greater Church. If you are
able to contribute to this
special offering, please note “Per Capita” on your check.
