                                                   GATHER IN GOD’S NAME

IN SILENCE                                                                                            Charles Dudley Warner

           The excellence of a gift lies in its appropriateness rather than in its value.

OPENING SENTENCES                                                            1 Corinthians 12:4-5 (NRSV)

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP AND LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                                                              Psalm 36:5-9 (NLT)

Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens;

             your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.

     Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

                 your justice like the ocean depths.

How precious is your unfailing love, O God!

     All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.

You feed them from the abundance of your own house,

            letting them drink from your river of delights.

     For you are the fountain of life,

     the light by which we see.

*HYMN # 473 (Sing Unison on Verse 5)                                    For the Beauty of the Earth

*CONFESSION OF WHO WE ARE                                           Prayers for Worship, no. 10

God, giver of life,

through our connection in Jesus Christ

we have been offered many good gifts:

Freedom is ours, but we want no restrictions;

     Hope is ours, but we want indisputable evidence;

     Joy is ours, but we want it immediately;

     Peace is ours, but we want to hoard it;

     Love is ours, but we can’t always believe it.

Forgive us for placing our wants and ideas above Your grace and truth.

Forgive us for limiting Your goodness by our selfishness,

and for remaining indifferent to Your Spirit working in our lives.

Forgive us in Jesus’ name,  (time for silent personal prayer)  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON                                                                  from Isaiah 43:1 & 3

            Friends, hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!  God has said,

            “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

            I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

                  Thank God who delivers us from death and redeems us from wrong,

                  whose name we know, to whom we ever belong.

*PASSING THE PEACE

        The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ who was and is and is to come, be with you all.
