GATHER
IN GOD’S NAME
IN SILENCE Paul, born Saul of Tarsus, an apostle, Romans 5: 1-6 (NRSV)
Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have obtained
access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our
hope of sharing the glory of
God. And, not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering
produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character
produces hope, and hope does
not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our
hearts through the Holy
Spirit that has been given to us.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ
died for the ungodly.
THE WORD INVITES
The Psalmist muses to God: When I pay attention to
your heavens,
the moon and
the stars, you have splashed into the dark;
what are humans that you think about
them?
mortals that you care for them? for us?

*PRAYER FOR
GOD’S PRESENCE on Psalm 8: 5-9/wrl
Lord, you make us mortals a little lower than you,
crowning us
with glory and honor.
You give us humans dominion over what you
have made;
and put all things beneath our
feet-sheep, oxen, birds, fish,
and all creatures that swim the
waters of earth.
O Lord, our ruler:
How majestic is your signature written
large in all the earth!

*A MEMORIAL
WEEKEND PRAYER & THE PEACE from
Chalice Worship
Memories are joyful and painful, but we cannot live
without them.
Lord, we pray that we never forget.
For leaders who send young men and women to war:
We pray their judgments be sound, and their
motives be pure.
For soldiers who lay down their lives for others:
That the love which inspires their
sacrifice
be fulfilled
in the love of Christ we pray.
For soldiers who are maimed or brutalized by war:
We pray that our love for them make their
scars less hurtful,
and
make their brutality yield to the tenderness of returning love.
For those left behind by the deaths of loved ones:
We pray that they may live on the strength
of the love they knew.
For those who suffer most from war:
That the homeless, orphaned, hungry and
innocent may help us turn
from
warlike ways to pursue the potential of peace.
God of peace, help us never forget that war is hell.
Help us honor its saints, and to pray for
its sinners and victims,
through
Him who sacrificed for our sakes, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The peace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with you all.
The peace of the Lord be with you.
(worshipers exchange words and gestures of the peace of Christ)
