What once was the Adult Forum has found a new form as the Overbrook Forum: Challenges & Responses. This program still has a similar purpose, to provide opportunities for members of OPC and the community at large to (1) encounter ideas that will shape the future of our society and (2) examine how we as Christians can best respond to these issues that are both global and local.
On Sunday, February 12. Abdi Roble, photographer and author of The Somali Diaspora, will share pictures, stories, and the larger context of Somali refugees from those in refugee camps to those in Columbus. He will be touching on issues like what it's like to be a refugee and the environmental and political forces that create refugees. This presentation will be in the Parlor from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. with lunch snacks provided.
The new format for the Overbrook Forum will be to host one speaker a month, usually on the second Sunday of the month. Finger food will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks or something to share as well. The first few months will be focused on the topic of Slavery and Refugees in the 21st Century. Stephanie Rapp from the Central Ohio Rescue and Restore Coalition will speak March 11th on the topic of what's being done to help victims of sex trafficking. Workers from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers will speak May 20th on the topic of the treatment of migrant workers in food production.
